STARescue was founded by Sharyn and Gary Miller as a non-profit
corporation for the rescue of small caged birds and parrots. Our sole
purpose is to provide quality care and love for homeless and special needs
pet birds.
There are a
myriad of reasons why people give up their companion birds–some by choice,
some not. Many new caretakers don't realize they are high-maintenance
animals, or their new pet's life expectancy can average from 10 to 80
years or more depending on their species. Sometimes, when illness, death,
divorce, new partners, household moves, financial problems, or numerous
other changes in a caretaker's life happen, their bird has to be placed.
Often the caretakers cannot bear to "sell" their bird. It's their child,
a member of the family, and once ownership changes, they're out of the
picture forever. Throughout their "child's" lifetime, they could be sold
20 or more times. Or they may decide to release their feathered loved one,
who has only eaten seed from a bag , into a dangerously cruel, seedless
world. Sadly, both of these options can cause a beloved avian companion
to face a sad, bleak and very terrifying future. Under the best of
circumstances, it is a heartbreaking decision.

your beloved "child" for what ever reason. We understand that it was not
easy for you to make this decision.
That's where we step in.
We, at Southeast Texas Avian Rescue, do
our best to make this decision as comfortable as possible. We will
interview you, and gather any and all information about your bird and the
lifestyle it is use to. If there is a situation that can be rectified to
where you are able to keep your bird, provide the best of care and not
place it, then we are all happy. If there is no other solution but
placing your bird in a new home, then we make this as comfortable on you,
and the bird, as we can.
We will gladly give you as much
information about us, and how we operate, as you wish. You have a right to
know all about the organization that promises to take good care of your
beloved pet.
